Plug-n-play device and software allow web-based monitoring of PV systems
October 14, 2009 White River Jct., VT – How do people know if their solar electric system is working? How do groSolar installers and dealers know that the systems they have sold to home-owners are working properly? How much energy has your solar electric system generated? How much C02 has your solar system offset? How does the weather impact production?
"groEnergy Watch gives me an easy way to watch my solar productivity from any web connection." - groSolar residential customer Bruce Killian.
To help homeowners and dealers answer these and other common questions, national solar energy leader groSolar today announced its launch of a new, proprietary monitoring system for solar-electric systems, groEnergy Watch. “groEnergy Watch gives me an easy way to watch my solar productivity from any web connection,” said groSolar residential customer Bruce Killian. “It’s also been a great way to teach myself and my friends and family about the impact of solar power in terms of C02 offsets including the equivalent in gallons of oil and gasoline saved.” The proprietary “plug-n-play” device and software was developed by groSolar’s industry-leading engineers, with retail cost considerably less than any comparable monitoring system. “This is a great example of how groSolar is going beyond the typical role of a distributor or installer,” said CEO Jeff Wolfe. “We saw the need to offer affordable and easy system-monitoring. So we decided to invest our own resources to develop groEnergy Watch, for the benefit of our residential customers and dealers.” groEnergy Watch version 1.0 is compatible with any residential system that uses Motech inverters. Motech inverters have the highest efficiency in their class and are distributed in North America exclusively by groSolar. The suggested retail price of groEnergy Watch is $499 including two years of online service, compared to other residential monitoring systems priced in the $700 to $1200 range. “groEnergy Watch gives our dealers an easy way to monitor their residential installations, as well as metrics to aggregate the financial and environmental benefits of solar power across their customer-base,” said groSolar VP of Technology John Berdner. “Everyone wants to ensure their investment in solar power is paying off, and groEnergy Watch provides easy access to system-performance-data from any internet connection.”
