Solar power improves the lives of 300 children.
February 5, 2009
Los Angeles, CA Can you believe its 2009 and there's still billions of people in the world without reliable electricity? Reliable power is what most of us here in the U.S. take for granted. Having a stable source of electricity has not only been a vital part of our economy's success over the last 100 years but has also given a chance for anyone to live a decent lifestyle. Bashoy-Abucot Elementary School located in the remote mountainous region of Benguet, Philippines had no access to power until recently, because of an alliance between three organizations electricity was made possible for the first time.
"Our first donation of a 1.1 kilowatt (kW) solar electric system to Bashoy-Abucot Elementary School would not have been possible without our generous supporters and volunteers who came together to make our vision possible. I want to thank everyone."
Unleash Power for the People Foundation, a non-profit organization based in New York aggregates funds for schools that have no access to power around the world. The organization plays the most important role in deploying solar electric systems to give children an equal opportunity to excel. "Our first donation of a 1.1 kilowatt (kW) solar electric system to Bashoy-Abucot Elementary School would not have been possible without our generous supporters and volunteers who came together to make our vision possible. I want to thank everyone." said Dave McCoy founder of Unleash Power for the People.
According to the organization, the completion of this first project positions the non-profit to deploy two more solar electric systems in 2009 to schools in Africa and India. ![]() "The solar electric system we donated provides the elementary school new opportunities by powering a computer, TV, lights and fans to create a comfortable learning environment. These children now have more resources to learn and acquire the skills they need for the 21st century." said Praveen Mathews, volunteer for Unleash the Power for the People. ![]() GoGreenSolar.com was selected as a partner to help execute the project by the Unleash Power for the People Foundation. GoGreenSolar.com's role was to manage the project and also select a reputable solar electric system integrator in the Philippines. The solar electric system consisted of SunWize 80w Solar Panels, Excel Tech XP1000 Pure Sine Wave Inverter and a battery bank. "Deploying solar electric systems on an international scale is not easy, there are many barriers that will get in the way including foreign governments, electrical standards, and logistics which can be overwhelming if you're not persistent. Being passionate about the outcome of the project kept us motivated to successfully execute with finesse," said Deep Patel, Founder & CEO of GoGreenSolar.com. ![]() The solar electric system took a month and a half journey via ocean freight to reach the Philippines from the U.S. Rodelio Soriano, Sales & Marketing director for Green Power Philippines Company, the leading renewable energy installer in the southeast Asia region, was responsible for implementing the solar panels on the rooftop of the school. The project site was difficult to access since the road up the school was unpaved. In addition to the treacherous road conditions the uncooperative weather delayed the implementation of the solar electric system for a couple weeks. "It was a challenging task to install a solar electric system on a very remote area considering the mountainous roads that we had to travel through to reach the school. But at the end, it was worth it. The joy and happiness we saw in the eyes of the community members, teachers and especially the kids who will benefit the most from this project was very heartwarming,” said Soriano. ![]() Here in the U.S., the solar power projects that receive the most attention are typically large scale commercial and industrial systems. Unleash the Power for the People Foundation is adding value by helping the people with the most urgent needs to access safe clean electricity. The foundation's work not only helps the people benefit from free solar electricity but also puts people on the right path toward the future by raising awareness of how this technology can change society as we know it. ### About Unleash Power for the People Foundation: Unleash the Power For the People Foundation, a 501c3 Non-Profit Corporation is a charitable organization that raises funds for the purpose of enabling people to help those that are truly impoverished in the world.
