The Residential Energy Services Network, known to many as simply RESNET, created a nationally recognized system for inspecting and calculating a home's energy performance using the Home Energy Rating System (HERS). A certified Home Rater is trained to evaluate a home and calculate a score. When an energy rating is assigned to a home, it is more than just a number. It's an important tool. It's a beginning. A first step. A call to action. A catalyst for change. The number gets our attention, compels us to ask questions and seek improvement. The rating by itself is not as meaningful as the consideration of all the data analyzed for that score. The results of an assessment not only yield a rating, but a road map to improved energy efficiency.
