Hamburg-based systems supplier Conergy is building a 1.2 megawatt solar park on the site of a former gravel pit in Thalham (Obing) in Southern Bavaria, north-east of the Chiemsee lake. All of the park's system components are being manufactured in the company's own plants. This is the second large-scale German project to be announced within the space of one week, following hot on the heels of the 8.2 megawatt solar park at Grimmen, Mecklenberg-Western Pomerania.
"These two major projects, producing in total over 9 megawatts, are a clear sign of an upswing in the market in the 4th quarter – even in the German domestic market", says the Head of Conergy Germany, Stefan Balbierz. "But it is also a sign that private investors are thinking long-term and hence preferring to invest in quality Conergy systems that are manufactured under one roof."
The Thalham solar park is the first solar project for the Hintz family, private investors who regularly invest in renewable energies and who are already involved in the 10 wind installations. This project was a real family affair, with father, Dr. Johannes Hintz and his wife Cornelia rolling up their sleeves alongside their two adult children, Dr. Wieland and Margarete Hintz. Conergy provided the EPC services. Along with designing the installation, Conergy was also responsible for construction, component manufacturing and commissioning. In future it will also look after technical operations and maintenance.
"We have done everything ourselves, including leasing the land, getting the building permits and organising the financing. So we are really proud of our park", says Dr. Johannes Hintz. "This park is the result of our whole family working with each other – and with Conergy – as a team. With Conergy as our partner, we had the support of real solar experts right from the start, and they always provided us with excellent advice. Every area, including the design, system components and maintenance comes with the assurance of quality provided by the "Made in Germany" label and a full service package. This gives us the security that is so important for us when making such a long-term investment."
On a site measuring 2.4 hectares, from December onwards more than 5,000 Conergy PowerPlus modules on Conergy SolarLinea mountings will be producing around 1,300 megawatt hours a year of clean solar energy, which will be fed into the Southern Bavarian grid by 70 Conergy IPG 15 T inverters. This is enough to provide 330 households with electricity – more than the that consumed in the whole of Thalham . The communal of Obing has around 4,000 inhabitants and is made up of 60 municipalities. One of these is the idyllic village of Thalham, which in future will be eliminating almost 800 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
About Conergy
Only Conergy delivers solar energy systems from a single source. As a system supplier, Conergy produces all components for a solar installation and offers all services under one roof.
With its modules, inverters and mounting systems, the solar expert creates Conergy System Technology, which is efficient and synchronized solar energy systems for private or commercial rooftops, as well as for multi-Megawatt Parks.
Conergy System Services deliver a “Worry-Free Package” for Conergy solar installations – from “A“ for architectural planning to “Y“ for yield insurance and “Z“ for zero trouble. Conergy’s experts not only install on-site turn-key solar projects, but they also manage the planning and financing, project implementation, system monitoring, operation and on-going maintenance of the project for maximum performance. With this comprehensive technology and service package, Conergy offers yield insurance for its installations.
Conergy System Sales brings Conergy premium products to nearly 40 countries. From “A” for Australia to “T” for Tunisia – the solar expert supports homeowners, installers, wholesalers and investors in their efforts to “go solar”. With sales activities on five continents, Conergy has close relationships with all its customers. In 2010, more than half of Conergy’s sales were generated outside of Germany.
Listed on the Frankfurt stock exchange, Conergy employs more than 1,600 people worldwide. Since Conergy’s founding in 1998, it has produced and sold more than 1.5 GW of clean solar energy. Thus, in 2010 Conergy solar installations have generated almost as much power as a nuclear reactor.
