WREF 2012 Accepts 856 Projects

Record number of research papers submitted for Denver conference, May 13-17

January 17, 2012

Referees for the World Renewable Energy Forum have approved a record 856 presentations by renewable energy researchers from around the world. Research findings will be organized into roughly 190 forums and panel discussions, and 86 technical sessions, as WREF 2012 comes to Denver, May 13-17.

Scientists, engineers, architects and economists from 66 nations and 37 states sent in proposals for presentations.

“The breadth and depth of topics covered is astounding,” noted Susan Greene, president of the American Solar Energy Society. “This is clearly going to be the premier international conference of the year, thanks to vigorous participation by the World Renewable Energy Network and the U.S. Department of Energy’s national laboratories.”

Because renewable energy has reached an economic tipping point, and is now cost-competitive with more traditional forms of energy in sunny climates, many of the Forum’s sessions focus on issues of large-scale deployment, including the cultural and environmental consequences of progress in clean energy.

For the first time, the American Solar Energy Society’s National Solar Conference will be held under the same roof with the biennial World Renewable Energy Congress. The combined event is WREF 2012. The conference draws prominent speakers and technical presentations from renewable energy laboratories, installations and industries around the world. WREF 2012 will examine how renewable energy technologies address the world’s economic, environmental and security challenges at every scale, from off-grid villages to gigawatt power plants.

Conference program chair is Chuck Kutscher, principal engineer and group manager of NREL's Thermal Systems Group. Co-chairs are Professor Ali Sayyigh of the World Renewable Energy Congress and Susan Greene, president of ASES.

For more information, and to register for the conference, visit www.wref2012.org

WREF 2012 is presented by the American Solar Energy Society, the World Renewable Energy Network, the Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the Colorado Renewable Energy Society and the International Solar Energy Society.
