3TIER Expands Beijing Office

Demand for State-of-the-Art Wind and Solar Assessment and Forecasting Increasing Rapidly Throughout East Asia

August 16, 2012

3TIER®, a global leader in renewable energy risk analysis, today announced the expansion of its Beijing office in response to increased demand for the company's services in China, Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia. The expansion will give wind and solar developers, operators, and investors more direct access to 3TIER's project feasibility, energy marketing, and asset management services. Dawei Zhang has been named managing director and will oversee 3TIER's East Asian operations. He comes to 3TIER with 6 years of technical and managerial experience as project director at a leading renewable energy engineering consultancy in Beijing.

For nearly two years, 3TIER has been serving the China renewable energy market through its partnership with Beijing New Energy Technology. This partnership has been quite successful, resulting in steadily increasing demand for 3TIER’s state-of-the-art services in China. Mr. Zhang’s addition will help guide 3TIER’s growth in the market and provide additional in-market technical expertise.

“3TIER has worked with the most sophisticated renewable energy developers, operators, and investors in the world, and interest in its modern methodology is very high in China and throughout East Asia,” said Mr. Zhang. “3TIER is uniquely positioned to satisfy the demand for greater accuracy and a more complete understanding of risk, for both wind and solar development in China and for Chinese companies developing projects abroad.”

Founded in 1999, 3TIER pioneered combining on-site observational data with numerical weather prediction modeling to forecast the long-term potential and expected variability of wind power production. With experience on over 650 wind projects on six continents, the company’s approach typically achieves a higher degree of certainty and provides a more accurate quantification of risk than more traditional methods. 3TIER is a dominant force in short-term operational forecasting as well, serving a large percentage of North America’s installed wind capacity. 3TIER has also become a global leader in solar assessment, conducting resource risk studies in the US, India, and Australia that helped secure over $4.6 billion in public and private financing and loan guarantees for the development of utility-scale solar projects. As a result of these advancements, the company regularly appears on lists of America’s fastest-growing companies.

“3TIER has built a solid foundation in China that warrants greater investment,” said Craig Husa, 3TIER chief executive officer. “The market is hungry for the technological and scientific innovation 3TIER delivers, and we are very fortunate to have someone with Mr. Zhang’s expertise and knowledge of the East Asian market to lead our efforts there. Financial stakeholders in wind and solar power generation will now have easier access to the most accurate and objective resource analysis available, enabling them to better mitigate risk and make critical financial decisions with confidence.”
