The Midwest is known more for wind and biofuels projects than solar. But with a number of states adopting specific solar targets and incentive programs, solar is starting to grow at a faster pace in the region. The 62-MW Rockford Solar Project is the first of its kind for the Midwest, however.
Governor Quinn announced the grant award at a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Wanxiang America solar manufacturing plant.
The 62-MW Rockford Solar Project is the effort of Rockford Solar Partners, LLC, a joint venture between Wanxiang America and Chicago-based renewable energy developer, New Generation Power to develop and operate an up to 62 MW photovoltaic solar generation facility in Rockford, Illinois.
