The global renewable energy industry is expected to grow from $500 billion today to $2 trillion in 2020. Yet, the US falls behind China and Europe because politicians can't enact simple policies like feed-in tariffs that prevent monopolies like utilities from blocking commercialization. I would say it is time to stop voting for the two major parties.

The nation that best adopts alternative energy will be the country that leads into the 21st century. This a direct quote from President Obama and it speaks the truth. Traditional fossil fuels gave rise to our society when the were cheap and abundant. As the price of these sources has gone up, we are finding out the hard way how much oil has control of our daily lives. We are not going to get away from it anytime soon, but that doesn't mean we can't aggressive use the resources we have to today to develop the resources we will need tomorrow. Domestic sources of fossil fuels could be used to propel the advancements of alternative energy in a time of economic hardship. It is extremely important that we use our resources very carefully to strive for this transition.

It is encouraging for those in power to finally be focusing some time on the idea of energy. It will be interesting to see what comes about in the next few months.

I was encouraged by Christophe's insights that Asia is becoming wealthy and is therefore now focusing a lot more time and energy on environmental issues (a past time of the wealthy). They feel a bit of "responsibility." That is only good for us all!.

There is not much point in making biofuels if you can't sell them.

We need to mandate that all vehicles sold in the US be able to use alternative fuels equally as well as petroleum. So long as consumers have no real or effective choices, there will be no change.

I enjoyed the podcast, however . . .

The discussion on inflating job creation/destruction numbers got me a bit irked. I have to admit that I'm not familiar with the studies the panelists took issue with from fossil fuel interests. However, it's clear to me from news stories I've seen on this site that renewable energy job creation studies site any new construction job as 1 new job created, regardless of the duration of that job. These are not jobs that are "career-track" as one of the panelists mentioned during the discussion. However, many fossil energy jobs that will eventually go away are career-track.
