Paula,

Thank you for your comprehensive coverage of the 'externalities' and consequences associated with the drive toward 'grid parity'.

As an advocator of renewable energy in general, I whole heartedly agree that this 'race to the bottom' does not bode well for any of the stakeholders, producers and consumers alike, including those attempting to create a sustainable industry, especially here in Ontario during the FIT era.

Technological advancement involving solar energy is amazing. We have the well known solar PV for generation of electricity, but we also have her little sister "solar thermal", which can address space heating & cooling needs, in addition to the more traditional DHW and pool heating.

I am concerned that the focus on grid parity and distributed electricity generation is also overshadowing solar thermal, the true solar energy champion. And I worry that this is intentional, because electrons are a commodity that can be sold/exported on the open market, while the implications of largescale solar thermal could conceivably result in "negawatts" and reduced demand for more traditional heating & cooling 'fuels' e.g., natural gas and electricity.

Just wondering; I'm trying to understand what is being incentivized and why.
