Romney Energy Plan Calls for East Coast Drilling to Cut Imports

Jim Snyder, Bloomberg

Mitt Romney would give states control over energy production on federal lands within their borders and allow drilling off the East Coast as part of his plan to reduce crude oil imports.

With rising gasoline prices again drawing voter attention to U.S. energy policy, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee travels to New Mexico today to discuss in greater detail his strategy for North American energy independence by 2020, including U.S. production along with imports from Canada and Mexico.

Energy is a “high-priority issue for American voters” and one the campaign plans to stress in coming weeks, Romney adviser Ed Gillespie told reporters yesterday. He said the proposal would create millions of jobs and lower energy costs.

The plan, which repeats some themes Romney has already discussed on the campaign trail, calls for approving the Keystone XL pipeline to carry tar sands crude from Alberta to refineries along the Gulf Coast.

Obama in January rejected a permit application from TransCanada Corp., the project’s sponsor, after Nebraska officials raised concerns that the pipeline could threaten the Ogallala aquifer. The Obama administration is reviewing a revised proposal.

Romney’s plan also would give states control over energy production on millions of acres of lands now under federal authority, as well as open territory off the coasts of Virginia and the Carolinas to oil and gas producers for the first time.

Gasoline Prices

There may be a renewed focus on energy as gasoline prices again rise. Prices averaged $3.72 in the U.S., up from $3.47 a month ago, according to the latest daily report from the AAA, the nation’s largest motoring organization.

Romney and Republican groups have criticized Obama for what they say is a waste of billions of taxpayer dollars on clean- energy subsidies, including a $535 million loan guarantee to Solyndra LLC, the solar-panel maker that went bankrupt, as fossil-fuel production on federal lands has fallen.

Obama has said total oil and gas production is up, which accounts for development on private lands.

Imports fell to about 45 percent of U.S. demand last year, down from a peak of 60 percent in 2005, according to the Energy Information Administration, which tracks and analyzes energy data. This year, the country’s dependence on imported crude oil should fall to about 42 percent, Adam Sieminski, head of the EIA, said in a telephone interview yesterday.

Obama says he supports an “all-of-the-above” energy policy that includes more oil and gas development as well as extending tax breaks that favor renewable energy sources like wind power, which Romney opposes.

What gives any state, or the people who reside there, any right to exploit the earth. Maybe we should ask the original owner if we can drill..if anyone knows who that is. The earth is used by millions of species that only exist for a short time who do not exploit and destroy their surroundings...except the supposed most intelligent species..humans....

"states like California that are billions in debt will quickly see that drilling offshore is the only way to dig themselves out from under their mountain of debts". See what the governator did -- oh wait, wasn't he a Republican? Can John Q play too? If you too are struggling with debt, consider exploratory drilling in the back yard.

Giving each state the right to decide what to do within their territories is not Romney's idea. It came from a old crusty piece of paper called the US Constitution, and it's 10th Amendment reserves this right for the states. The Bill of Rights is definitely worth a read if you have a few spare minutes.

Just because states will have the right to drill offshore on federal territory doesn't mean they will. However, states like California that are billions in debt will quickly see that drilling offshore is the only way to dig themselves out from under their mountain of debts.

Drill baby drill!! Pump those pollutants down our children and grand-children's throats and lungs so the billionaires can continue the status quo. They will use this oil money profit to buy more politicians and make better tax breaks and promote their products. Drill baby drill!

Chill dudes. Federal lands were set aside for the exclusive use of the fossil fuel industry. Mit is right - this needs to be a priority. In order to prevent any agro in future from the greenpeacenicks and other ecoterrorists, let's have some clarity. No one needs limp wristed socialist bird watchers getting in the way of good business practice. It's time to get tough on the environment!

Romney Says Bain Capital Taught Him What He Needs as President.

I am sure that he meant to say that he will run America as thought it was Bain Capitol, does that mean the he will sell it off in bits and pieces.

"The lessons from that time would help me as president to fix our economy, create jobs and get things done in Washington," Romney wrote in an article in the Wall Street Journal. This guy is really scary.

Natural gas is renewable. It is being continuously reproduced by nature. Biogas is made directly from manure, waste, and other biomass.

http://ronwagnersrants.blogspot.com Natural gas is the future of energy. It is replacing dirty, dangerous, expensive coal and nuclear plants. It is producing the electricity for electric cars. It will directly fuel cars, pickup trucks, vans, buses, long haul trucks, dump trucks, locomotives, aircraft, ships etc. It will keep us out of more useless wars, where we shed our blood and money. It reduces CO2 emissions and other pollutants. Here are over 900 recent links for you:

Hi: The Dystopian's Romney and Ryan would drill ANYWHERE because they have enough money to live anywhere they want to avoid the consequences of their O&G energy policies. Like many others, O&G has bought them in totality. Both of them are elitist pigs. You can see it in their "low" camera moments when they are walking through crowds answering on the fly questions from reporters.. They reek of the arrogance of wealth and insincerity!!!....
