On additional comment; soalre energy is just one part of the alteranitve energy process.

The DOD has already signed off on non solar alternative energy sources for the Navy

I notice the article combines the words solar and renewable in te setence; the truth is the sun and solar energy have been around since creation and and is avialbe 24/7 somewhere on the earth we call time zones.
We have improve both machinery and processed chemcials from the earth to control the use of it for alternative energy

IF you do not beleive me check the beginning of the bible

The DOD role as an early adopter of solar energy has been well known for many years to those interested in building a new, clean energy economy. In this regard, the authors have chosen the wrong target audience to pitch the military role in clean energy development. Someone with the byline of "Brigadier General, inspirational speaker, and 27 years as an Army leader" should be reaching out to the anti-science, anti-clean-energy (but very pro-military) body of the USA electorate. The target should be getting this article posted on the web sites of every GOP politician at every level in the USA, and its content should be hugely emphasized in the platforms of the GOP candidates for President. Considering the all-out attacks by the GOP on virtually anything having to do with renewable energy or climate change science, it should be revealing to understand whether "DOD, energy security, renewable energy, climate change, and the 'staggering costs' (of dirty energy)" taken together in the same article have any meaning for GOP voters.

Hello! yes, I fully agree, dont be bashful, put your name on that. This is what I been saying in San Diego for years. This is a very Republican Military town and the symbiotic effect would do well for renewables. Smart they are! the Military, yes, they say National Security by owning our own Power ! Same goes for us little Homeowners, The Power Company controls too much, they even effect the Courts and Legal System with our money! (they can buy "Justice" with Attorneys). I call for everyone to go to local Media and use free speech to admit our advisories have beat us at our own game, they have gone Solar, Geo, etc.

Absolutely! ... to commenters 2 & 3. The best part of the DOD's efforts was that each base chose to implement the renewable technology that was best suited to their climate and needs. In that way the government now has gathered a terrific record of performance for the variety of alternative energy production technologies.

Two years ago at the Breakthrough Insitute's symposium in DC the presenters who were the most knowledgable were the representatives of the DOD, DOE and the then Governor of Michigan, Jenifer Granholm!

So solar will not produce as designed while the military supports geoengineering aerosol spraying globally. A better option will be to mothball some of the" 300,000 buildings on its 500 plus installations, with 2.2 billion square feet of space,". Sorry to be so negative , is the USA really bankrupt?
