Southwest Solar Technologies Inc. proved its innovative  concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) solar power technology with "on-sun testing" at Southwest Solar Research Park in AZ.

December 9, 2011 - BUSINESS WIRE -- Southwest Solar Technologies Inc. proved its innovative  concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) solar power technology with "on-sun testing" at Southwest Solar Research Park in AZ. The CPV technology will join Southwest Solar Technologies' product portfolio.

The CPV design combines currently available multi-junction solar cells with a unique flux management capability that enables non-uniform light intensity to be used. This means the CPV cells can be combined with various optical systems, including those for concentrating solar power (CSP) dishes and heliostat systems. The CPV system translates CSP concentrated light to efficiently deliver 1200 ?suns? to the CPV cells.

Internal liquid-to-air cooling also makes the CPV system a candidate for combined heat and power (CHP) applications.

Additional design considerations led to lower-cost components and low-cost manufacturing processes.
