According to worldcoal.org the average coal fired plant in use today (worldwide) is 25% efficient. High-efficient plants are capable of 45%. This technology – once field proven would certainly put solar in a head-to-head competiton with coal. Certainly hope that it does prove out and the lab to production time line is as short as possible.
