In the long run these need to operate on atmospheric CO2. It is not sufficient to put these next to sources of CO2, since that amounts to dual use of the carbon, but we are still putting carbon into the atmosphere.

You can always switch to using the CO2 that comes from burning biofuels for electricity in place of these fossil fuels. It's possible to use biogas, agricultural waste like corn stalks, or high plants like miscanthus and switchgrass that have energy content per acre. These can even be burned in retrofitted coal or natural gas power plants.
