As long as efficiency and quality of the Renewable Energy Products are there they will thrive even without subsidies. For example in India Solar cooker is subsidised but hardly about 600,000 Solar cookers were sold(but not all in operation). On the other hand the bicycle used by millions was never subsidised even though it costs more than double of a solar cooker which is the clean energy transportation.

By 2035 China and India's energy use is expected to double and the world's energy consumption is expected to grow 53 percent, according to the International Energy Outlook 2011 (IEO2011).
The good news is that renewable energy will be the fastest-growing energy source over the same period.

Here's one way to help grow consumer demand for Renewables without subsidies!

Even solar homes need to have a utility meter connected. Even with a 100% capacity PV grid you'll want to sell back excess to the utility, and you must be ready for that cloudy day when utility power is required. But no longer must you accept coal or other fossil fuels as the source of power through your utility, IF you live in a de-regulated energy state!

Green energy giants like NRG are already selling excess production power through Renewable Energy Certificates on wholesale markets to utilities. But now they are quickly developing and setting up partnerships to offer guaranteed 100% renewable energy like wind & solar for consumers registering with their residential services. One example of this I found is called True Green and is fully described online here:
http://www.SelectMyPower.com

Though True Green is not yet released outside of New Jersey, New York, and a portion of Illinois covered by Chicago's ComEd utility, all deregulated states have similar choices now available, and this one is scheduled for expansion. The best from a market driven renewables-supporting perspective will be those, like the one above, that are committed to competitive pricing while offering a fully 100% "Green" electricity sourcing plan right to your home.

One thing to note; this does not eliminate the local legacy utility, but rather takes over and saves consumers money only on the "source" portion of their bill. The remainder is still billed by the same utility that currently services each customers meter, grid, equipment. Fees are negotiated with each state to determine how much they can charge.

This is one of the few ways not yet reaching the media news cycle that everyday homes and small business can bring market demand pressure to bear on future investment in Renewables at the utility scale. So share the word! (link!)

Sanders; Oor... start your own solar power production facility and have a piece of the pie. After all, ute's are "for profit" businesses. Can you think "distributed energy"?
