PRNewswire -- MiaSole is in volume production of 13% efficiency copper/indium/gallium/selenide (CIGS) thin-film photovoltaic solar panels at its Silicon Valley facility. Production panel efficiency has increased by 30% in 2011, and cost/Watt was reduced about 30% as well.

The glass-on-glass efficiency improvement will be carried through to flex substrates, said Robert DeLine, VP of marketing at Miasole. The cost reductions acheived with the Miasole panels are the result of a proprietary low-cost physical vapor deposition (PVD) process, low capital expenditure and the use of abundant and less expensive raw materials, DeLine noted.
