Strictly speaking, if we take into account the tax subsidies given the oil and gas industries; we've passed grid-parity!

The Solyndra case is apparently politically motivated--most new tech ventures fail. China is NOT to be blamed for Solyndra's demise. Look at it another way, the Chinese is doing the American consumer a favor with subsidised crystalline solar module prices. It is up to Americans to achieve value by innovating new technologies. Let those willing to perfect low-priced delivery or our new discoveries!

Still using Solar interchangeably with PV. Come on REW, you know better than that! Solar thermal doesn't have a chance until this changes.

solarMD, I think low-cost Chinese solar panels are in fact the biggest culprit behind Solyndra's failure. Of course, I don't have access to their books but China's low-cost production has made it very difficult for American PV manufacturers. This is very good for consumers, EPCs, and developers like me, but it's not good for American PV manufacturers. I don't see American PV manufacturers competing any time soon because even American companies like First Solar have offshored production for some time now. It seems that American manufacturing won't be able to gain a foothold if and until Chinese and other developing countries' wages rise significantly higher, which could be many years. But I could be wrong.

very informative article, will be checking out the reports you called to attention. Your 'anecdotal' evidence about PV installed costs is encouraging! Let's hope you're well informed :-D
