July 20, 2011 -- Oerlikon Solar's Chris O'Brien chats with Debra Vogler at Intersolar North America, covering trends in the solar photovoltaics market. Solar cell installations are shifting away from Europe to emerging markets, says O'Brien. Low-cost thin film silicon is a perfect fit for these new regions, often in the SunBelt.
O'Brien also comments on the US market, with a strong supply chain for solar cell manufacturing.
On the standards front, Oerlikon Solar is driving for a standard form factor for thin film silicon solar cells. Standardization can cut costs out of the PV module manufacturing process.
