Dupont buys PV silicon ink maker

July 25, 2011  |  0 Comments

DuPont acquired Innovalight Inc., a company specializing in advanced silicon inks and process technologies to increase crystalline silicon solar cell efficiency, for an undisclosed sum.

July 25, 2011 -- DuPont acquired Innovalight Inc., a company specializing in advanced silicon inks and process technologies to increase crystalline silicon solar cell efficiency, for an undisclosed sum.

Dupont added the company to bolster its solar energy manufacturing materials portfolio. Silicon inks used in conjunction with DuPont Solamet photovoltaic metallization pastes boost the amount of electricity produced from sunlight hitting selective emitter solar cells. The CA-based Innovalight provides inks, processing technology, and several products under development. Innovalight's knowledge base covers "solar devices, silicon technology, and selective emitter technology," noted Conrad Burke, founder.

DuPont exceeded $1 billion in revenue from sales into the photovoltaic market in 2010, and has set a goal to reach $2 billion by 2014. In 2010, Innovalight raised $18 million in additional capital from investors. Selective emitter solar PV technology could represent 13% of crystalline silicon (c-Si) solar cell production by 2013; up to 38% by 2020.

DuPont will apply its production scale-up and manufacturing strategies to accelerate product introductions based on the Innovalight technologies.

DuPont is a science-based products and services company. Learn more at www.dupont.com
