LOVE IT. My interest these days is more off shore and high-altitude (you know, the flyers) there is so much better wind there to capture.While this article can certainly apply to off shore. I think there is more exciting development recently in "floating wind mills" in deep water.We should realize that to date nearly 100% of off-shore wind mills are in less than 30 meters deep water. That is limitting. Great wind potential all over the world is in deeper water. Just go study wind energy maps.Siemans,Vestas,Suzlon and the rest of the big boys are all trying to bring the better floater to market. That is where the 7, 10, even 15 MW wind mills get utilized. AND, no NIMBY's off-shore in deep water.

Coordinated OffshireEnergy Extraction

Offshore area should extract maximum energy to reduce costs and ease of operation and maintenance, as follows:
1. Install Wave Gear Drive system.
2. Use the WGD offshore "Construction Unit" to support the Ebb/Tide turbines.
3. Use the WGD offshore "Construction Unit" to support the Wind turbines.
1. WGD Offshore "Construction Unit"
a. Would act as an offshore structure for Wind, Ebb/Tide and Wave Extraction systems.
b. Would provide an offshore dry deck and enclosed space for all.
2. Wind Turbines
a. Use the WGD offshore "Construction Unit" to support the Wind turbines.
b. One wind turbine is installed per "Construction Unit".
c. Reducing the blade sweep to approximately 19-meters would reduce construction, operation and maintenance costs.
d. Transferring the wind turbine torque to the equipment at the dry deck using low RPM direct drive shaft to drive equipment through a reduction gear.
e. This way no equipment other than the gear is installed at the top of the wind turbine support structure.
3. Ebb/Tide Turbines
a. Use the WGD offshore "Construction Unit" to support the Ebb/Tide turbines.
b. Up to six (6) Ebb/Tide turbines can be installed per "Construction Unit".
c. Modify the Ebb/Tide turbines to act only as energy extraction system, by transferring the resulting torque up to a water pump or generator installed at the dry deck.
d. Conic sections are installed at both ends of the turbines to amplify the water flow velocity above the 2-meters/second limit.
e. Energy is transferred to the pumps or generators at the dry deck by means of chain and sprocket or any other means.
f. An electro/mechanical control system would vary the pitch of the turbine blades as a function of Ebb/Tide water velocity.
g. An electro/mechanical control system would reverse the direction of turbine rotation due to reversal of direction of water flow.

Dear Shamil,
I went to your site. Because of my engineering education I was quickly interested. I believe that wave motion is under-utilized because water is over 800 times denser than air. I really think you should hire an Architect, an Illustrator or someone that can help you with a better visual presentation. With all respect, I think you have good concepts, and a very dry delivery. And Shamil, I do wish you and your industry well.

Siemens quotes only "105dB" noise as "one of the quietest"? Really.

And 114 tonnes atop a 100m+ pole with 115m prop!

It'll be exciting to see the first shipping accident, or first wild & woolly storm results. Wonder what the insurance cost for the 10MW "Sea Titan" will be, relative to the actual yearly average power it delivers without maintenance or subsidy.

Of course, apart from the "my pinwheel is bigger than yours" hype, we 're left with the reality that all these machines are saddled with direct dependence on the Chinese monopoly of the rare-earth industry -- those magnet materials aren't cheap, and will never be (except for Chinese builders).

But, even here in Calif., we have plenty of folks making $ off subsidized, low power-density, land-hungry wind, even if it doesn't perform with as much certainty as even local solar installs...
