World Wind Outlook: Down But Not Out

Despite gaining 37 GW last year to hit 196 GW — 2.5 percent of global electricity supply — worldwide wind's growth in installation has slowed.

The author writes: "In some countries and regions wind has become one of the largest electricity sources. For instance in terms of wind share, Denmark is the world leader with 21 percent, Portugal follows with 18 percent, Spain at 16 percent, and Germany with 9 percent."

German electricity generation statistics from here:
http://www.volker-quaschning.de/datserv/ren-Strom-D/index_e.php

state that 2010 wind generation was 37,466 GWh and gross consumption was 621,000 GWh. This would indicate 6.0 % of demand met by wind rather than the 9% quoted in the article. You would think that the WWEA would be able to provide accurate statistics if they wanted to ....

Steven,

I had a similar reaction when I saw the "almost 2%" stated for American wind generation. While the actual number is 2.3%... That's not a great error, but that happened to be a stat that I knew cold, so when I saw it recorded incorrectly, I was curious why the WWEA didn't know that number.
