What are the storage impacts/limitations of adding this much wind to the grid and who would store it?

It would be interesting to understand how the transmission line issues be handled to support the wind farm developments which are likely to be built in the next twenty years? It appears that Mexico holds the potential to significantly supplement its hydrocarbon-based energy supplies and augment its potential to supply both domestic and export markets for electrical energy, while advancing a world-class example of how wind power can be deployed.

It's remarkable that California has fallen behind in deployment of renewable energy systems, primarily due to "environmentalist" objections. Mexico's more pragmatic approach may become a model for how to do wind right while sustaining the natural environment to the maximum extent possible, thus providing a laboratory for examples for others.

Energy storage is the major technical and deployment challenge of our times, and will continue to be a barrier to full deployment of renewable energy systems; however, it seems that a robust transmission system and balancing cells may help to remedy this issue to some extent. Thus, transmission across the Mexico-US border is vital.
