Conergy is stepping up its production capacities. Apart from establishing additional in-house production plants, the system manufacturer will continue to rely on its factory in Frankfurt (Oder) but also expand to the contract manufacturing of its Conergy premium modules.

(January 10, 2011) -- Conergy's production facilities for modules, inverters, and mounting systems worked at full speed in 2010, straining their capacity limits. Conergy expects further growth in 2011 and beyond, especially in markets outside Germany. To be able to meet the high demand, Conergy is stepping up its production capacities. Apart from establishing additional in-house production plants, the solar system manufacturer will continue to rely on its factory in Frankfurt (Oder) but also expand to the contract manufacturing of its Conergy premium modules.

In January, the Conergy subsidiary Mounting Systems, mounting systems manufacturer, will open its own production site for solar mounting systems in Sacramento, CA. Currently, engineering staff are in the course of installing the production machinery in the halls with a floor area of approximately 5,000 square meters and running initial production tests. In a few days, the EUR5 million factory will go live, producing mounting systems for upwards of 100MW.

Conergy employees from Germany are on site to ensure a smooth production launch in Sacramento. Management, sales and engineering are being taken care of by experts who have already been active at the Mounting Systems plant in Rangsdorf for several years. These experts will also be in charge of the project-specific adaptation of the Conergy mounting systems to the needs of the US market.

Conergy’s CSO Andreas Wilsdorf said, "The US solar market is expected to more than double by 2012. Our new factory will help us to grow further in this market. In Sacramento, we will be able to multiply our production capacities within a short time to satisfy the growing demand in the entire region. At the same time, our factory will shorten our path to the customer, directly supplying mounting systems to the US market, which reduces shipping times and transportation costs."

In 2011, Conergy will also further expand its solar module capacities: last year, Conergy's state-of-the-art 250MW factory in Frankfurt (Oder) produced its premium modules at close to full load. To accommodate the growing demand, especially from other countries, Conergy will outsource its module production to a European contract manufacturing partner in 2011. For this purpose, Conergy has already secured the exclusive use of a line on which specialists will produce Conergy's premium modules according to the company's quality requirements and design specifications. Here too, Conergy engineering teams will serve on site to ensure smooth operation and optimum results.

"With this step, we are transferring the expertise we gained in Frankfurt (Oder) to new module lines and securing additional capacities with the same quality. In this way, we will be able to serve our core markets even more efficiently and react to market fluctuations in a more flexible manner, without tying up large amounts of capital in new module production facilities. This approach also leaves us with sufficient capacity for new markets that still need to be developed.," says Wilsdorf.
