Can I ask whether the wind farms that you are putting up are to be linked into a High Voltage Direct Current network across the continent? Or are they connected directly into the AC grid?

If the latter, do you find that the day time input of solar electricity from PV is balanced by the Wind Power input which could be a 24 hour supply, but is more likely to be biased to the hours of darkness?

Not surprisingly, the speech never contains any financial information. The truth about "wind energy" is that it doesn't produce enough electricity to make a difference in our need for clean AFFORDABLE energy. The typical wind turbine costs $5 million and generates less than $500,000 in electricity each year. Subtract from that the operating and maintenance expenses and it's a losing proposition.

Many wind farms made some money for their developers, but they are beginning to be exposed as bad investments.

We should remain hopeful about some new breakthroughs in wind or solar, but it hasn't happened yet. The DOE is wasting billions on a few projects this year that will never produce enough electricity to make a measurable difference.

We need more innovation before wasting more money subsidizing wind and solar - it's a losing proposition.

Actually, there is a new innovation we are trying to develop.
I am a sailplane pilot, and of course, there is lots of wind
energy. Wind mills are big, expensive, and do not actually
produce the power needed. My neighbor does not like the looks
of them on the land.
Alay scientific I am with is trying a funnel ducted approach
where we funnel the wind to a turbine generator. Much like the funnels or wind socks at the airport you see many in a line would actually draw the wind into the turbine generator.
We would control the wind to a degree with the wind coming to
us.

We still need funding.

The comments posted by Andrew_W are complete fabrications, there is no validity to his numbers or his claims. His comments are typical of individuals who trash wind power and have to resort to inventing falsehoods to do so.

As more and more wind projects come on line, they begin producing electricity and offset electricity from coal or natural gas plants -- this immediately begins to reduce air pollution and mercury emissions from those plants. (And thus, you get a lot of comments similar to the ones above from people who have a stake in fossil fueled industries).

Economically, the figures quoted in the posting above are completely bogus. Wind projects are coming in at above $2200/kilowatt installed costs, far less than the bogus figure above. Projects immedaitely start generating electricity and begin to pay off the upfront capital investment.
