UK Drops Massive Severn Tidal Scheme

Plans to build a 10-mile (16km) dam at a cost of $34 billion ($54 billion) to meet 5% of the UK's energy needs have been scrapped.

Very disappointing to read this. Very short sighted view.
While I can appreciate the wildlife aspects of the project - this could be done by other less damaging technologies, such as tidal lagoons, tidal reefs and a shoots barrage - could be used but going nuclear even outside of the costs and security what about the nuclear waste??? And they're only good for 40 yrs - then what??
