We haven't used oil to produce much electricity in this
country for a very long time. That went out with high button shoes and $30 per barrel crude. It is, howevere, refreshing to read something in a green publication that actually is based on logic and reality rather than global warming religious beliefs. Believe it or not, but there are still loonies out there who claim soalr/wind power will replace oil and the need for imports. Aside from the fact that thiose technologies do not compete with oil for ICE usage, almost half our oil consumption has nothing to do with
energy.

Hybrids are a great step in becoming fossil fuel free. Even Sarah Palin in a warped round about way admits that fossil fuels are finite by saying that we have enough oil for several hundred years. There are two basic immutable facts, if we don't wipe ourself out first,: 1)Fossil fuels are finate and we will run out 2) We will eventually switch over to renewables The only question is, will we have the wisdom to switch over now and avoid an economic collapse or will we wait too long and pay the consequences.

Roughly 2% of our electricity comes from oil.

A green publication? What exactly does green mean?

With the exception of a percentage of our liquid fuels, we are already energy independent. The desire to limit CO2 is the primary driver of renewable electricity generation, not energy independence.

Black is not white, up is not down, and the assessment of thousands of scientific studies by an International Panel on Climate Change is not a religion. Science is the antithesis of religion.

Hybrid should include combining Ground Source Heat Pump with Solar Photo Voltaic. An optimized mix of the two combined with a possible storage
capability (most likely some form of deep cycle battery configuration)would
allow for cost effective energy footprint shrinkage. Although the expense of such hybrid systems may be prohibitive for for most residential structures, it may still represent a good investment for commercial and municipal structures both in terms of immediate energy cost savings and longer term ROI.

Russ Finley tells it exactly as it is. Those who claim that climate change is a hoax or isn't happening are on the same credibility level as the shill doctors and representatives of the tobacco industry who claimed that smoking wasn't addictive and wasn't harmful. These opportunivors serve only to increase the death and destruction they claim isn't even happening. It's a real shame that they and their families aren't the only ones who get to suffer the consequences.
