A turbine cannot be placed in every sq km of the entire maritime zones of the US. It is very expensive for turbines to fixed into water depths of more than 30 MW. And these costs are not like solar pv costs, they are not likely to fall like solar PV costs.

Instead, focus should be on more nearshore assets. But with all this NIMBYism a-la New England, it should be a very difficult task for the US. It remains to be seen if the Cape Wind project is every going to come up.

What if:
instead of lying us into a war with Iraq,
and instead of cutting taxes and doubling the national debt,
Bush and his pals had tried to do something to actually help this country, like, oh, I don't know - actually spend some money on getting us off of coal and imported oil.
What would then be the state of our economy?

Yes, anonymous you are so correct, but the past cannot be changed unfortunately. Right now the danger is that the election and low natural gas prices (due to hydro fracking in the Marcellus and others) will kill off any budding wind and solar projects. Just like in the early '80s. It's always easier not to do anything...However, we have to keep trying! Let's get those solar panel prices down, so low, that nothing else makes any sense!

In 10 years, when we are paying other countries for our wind and solar energy (just like we are paying for our oil), then our government will start to think about how to get into this business of green energy. It will be too late to build US jobs, and profit from investment being created now. sad
