It is truly sad that the blockade to progress in congress is so fearful and childish in their resolve to do nothing. All the worse fears of the most debilitating ignorances have formed the will that, in less than a decade, can make the USA the most backward reaching, and possibly the greatest failure at the juncture with the highest potential ever seen in the history of the world. We seem to be entering a decade where the world direction and power leadership will be lost to the greed of "old money" corporate zealots and the politicians they have influenced. Somehow, the common motivation of the country has been relegated to fear and lack of vision, when it seems to me that a common voice of reason is but a simple choice away.

If we increasingly burn every terestrial form for energy, their will be no support remaining for the slower oxidation that life forms require. So good are we at managing the denial of the obvious. So commited are we at believing the corporate folly of consumption that we have forgotten that we imagined and made this scenerio for ourselves. It is not the natural world, and it is not sustainable. When a government is in lock step with this illusion, can total collapse be far beyond. We get the government we ask for, or allow. Thanks, Clint. We must, each of us, sort this out and make the moves to change it. We may not be able to wait for favorable government support in this regard. They are working for someone, or something else.

The wisdom of the framers of the constitution once again comes into play. The brakes have been applied to panic driven and ill-conceived legislation that will further destroy the economy while providing no meaningful reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, which may or may not be a problem. Without question, the legislation was nothing more than a raid on the consumer's pocketbook to funnel more money into the bloated government, Wall Street as well as "green energy" projects that are incapable of competing, thus their need to feed at the Federal pig trough.

The actual problem is reasonably priced energy which is absolutely vital to the economy. Efficiently produce as well as use energy and the "global warming" problem (whether real or imagined) is solved as a byproduct.

Do the politicians realize how immoral they are being. We are passing on to our children a country with a huge debt (now over $43,000 person and $354,900 of unfunded liabilities). On top of this, we will be giving them a planet where the weather is more erratic. The oceans are already rising, and getting more acidic. Would you think it is fair to drop your garbage and raw sewage in the street? Luckily for you, there is a system where you have to pay for your waste products but in turn get it taken care of efficiently. The Renewable Energy wants the total cost of energy to be factored in. Then the coal plants won't have their MASSIVE SUBSIDIE OF NOT PAYING FOR THEIR WATE PRODUCTS. Then we are talking apples and apples. With the real cost of energy being factored in, renewable are the most cost effective!! Also if you haven't noticed the total economy takes place on the Earth. Your short term raping of the Earth will make it harder to grow food, cause devastating environmental issues. If you cannot act responsibly on this planet, can you please go to another one.

Welcome to American Politics in an election year...

How does maintaining waste, inefficiency, pollution, and the costly destruction of environmental assets, profit America? How does actively engaging in political obstruction on the scale of nuclear war in the Senate, ensure global competitiveness, create much needed 21st century jobs, and further America's technology leadership? Ask the Republican Party, they have plenty of distractions, answers and solutions that defy logic and the lessons of recent history. As a nation, we have seen more than our share of wasted opportunities through government grid lock. Grid lock, fed by false, incomplete economics, and supported by powerful vested media interests... "Rupert Murdoch's News America Inc gives Republicans $1M to defeat Democrats".

The American people, fired the former Gas, Oil and Coal political operatives of the White House and Congress - leaving an election mandate to solve long ignored problems, including an economy in free fall, an environment in trouble, and an emerging states-driven renewable energy policy as fragmented as the Mason-Dixon line. Science deniers, and their fossil fuel friends effectively funded, and continue to do so, their political agenda of rallying the call for more obstructionism come this November.

The entrepreneurial spirit, however, is alive and well in thousands of emerging new clean tech companies across this nation - thanks in part to enlightened Administration policies and a clean energy agenda supported by (most of) the Democratic majority in both houses. It's also helpful to have high profile private sector companies like Cisco, GE, Google, Duke Energy, among others, investing in clean tech. But this is an industry that cannot afford to ignore its own political interests. Rather, it must rally the resources to deliver this election year a political majority that continues to support clean energy - taking the necessarily regulatory and legislative steps to ensure America's mission for a clean energy future is fulfilled.

I'm in agreement with the need to shift to renewables, and to change the existing business model to something that benefits the united states of America and the world. I reject the current proposed model based on carbon being a problem. The truth is that we need to change but not at the expense of destroying the country and the world with a bogus cap and trade system that only seeks to destroy our way of life. Seriously, who are these folks trying to convince when they say that the very gas that makes life possible is a poison?!! It's evil at the very core, because it's anti-life! So, let's cut the crap! When you support the whole carbon dioxide \ greenhouse gas emission are bad theory, you support the destruction of this country, and sending most of the population of this planet back to the stone age. Take the time to do some research and find the truth!

We're not going to make any real progress until more people know about the system being set up to fleece us and control us. When we know the truth, we can chart a proper course, and ultimately have a system that is truly lasting and sustainable. It's going to take a lot of sacrifice and determination, but isn't that who we are as a people? Determined to do what's right?

It seems to me that the real issue hwith US Politicians is their strange belief that God is on their side. If Darwinian theory was promoted in Schools instead of the lunatic Creationist ideas that are currently promoted, perhaps the legislature would realise that what we do, or don't do, actually oaffects the whole world. There is no Almighty deliverance from evil about to happen. Big Oil is killing our ability to live on this planet. Let's be honest and open about this, the world will not end, but we might stop being part of the world. The planet will continue, its just that us and most other life forms will not be here to see it.

GRW:
Whether you believe in God or not is your personal choice, but the issues at hand are not being dealt with truthfully. If they were we wouldn't be in this mess now. The bottom line for those that choose to be "willfully ignorant" is the same as those that are deliberately plotting the destruction of the people and the planet. A certain small number of people will make it, and the rest won't. It's as simple as that. This plan has been around for quite a while, and if you want to take the time to connect the dots, it can be plainly seen. Have you read the script on the Georgia "guide stones"? It's just one of many places that the outline of the most evil plan ever devised against humanity can be seen by all. Do you ever wonder about why this is being done? Who profits, why and in what ways? The ultimate goal for the survival of this planet is for the benefit of a relatively small number of people, and it doesn't include me or you.
All the BS mechanisms used to belittle or diminish the arguments against the current model supporting the current faulty plans for a more functional planet model are weak and disgusting. So what if you don't believe in God, it's nobody's business but your own. And if you take the egocentric position that the planet is going to fail because you didn't wipe your butt with recycled tp, or drive an electric car or any other of a myriad list of things created specifically to support the failing fantasy created in the fairy tale of "climate change", then you're a dysfunctional part of the BIGGEST hoax ever perpetrated. Whether you want to acknowledge it or not.

The truth based in physical science cannot be refuted by relativistic, flawed arguments, no matter how impassioned. Associating people that believe in the real truth of the matter and describing them as crazy or dangerous really gives us an accurate portrayal of who the real deniers are.

I love the ridiculous comment about "the wisdom of the framers of the constitution". I doubt they were considering the impact of excessive carbon emissions on the stability our global climate when penning the great document in 1787; nor do I think they would support the election year political obstructiveness that is preventing our nation from capitalizing on one of the greatest economic opportunities since the advent of the automotive industry. How impeding the advancement of renewables and clean technologies has become a rallying cry for the oil & gas backed political right is stupefying.

If political decisions are purely made on perceived monetary impact, then let's do away with the massive subsidies that the oil and natural gas industries receive annually, which far exceed any type of financial prop received to date from any renewable sector. Although overwhelming evidence from global (not Democratic) scientists suggest that climate change is being rapidly expedited by atmospheric pollutants produced by the transportation, traditional power generation and manufacturing industries, the knowledge alone that fossil fuels are finite resources should be enough for our country to collectively support the advancement of alternate solutions.

If putting a price on carbon is of any significance, as suggested by the clean-tech executives, investors, and advocates, it must be done democratically by the global community without any concern for the political will of the US or any other country. The democratic voice of the global community is the free market. That is not to say that there is a free market mechanism in place whereby the price of carbon can be readily determined, but there could be.

The key element of a viable free market mechanism for carbon is the discovery of the amazingly significant economic value and environmental benefits of CO2 removed from the atmosphere and captured as biochar which is then deposited in the soil we depend on for our food, fiber and healthy environment. Therefore, the free market mechanism for globally determining the value of carbon sequestered in the soil as biochar would be an international carbon commission that would set the international standards and auditing practices for; *determining sustainable biomass sources for conversion into biochar and energy, *quality standards for the biochar, *appropriate uses for which the co-produced energy must be used, *appropriate soils in which the biochar can be deposited, *secure legal control of improved soils in which sustainable and mutually beneficial uses of the improved soils can be guaranteed, *and finally an international market in which certificates of biochar deposited in the soil can be freely traded.

The energy co-produced with the biochar will be a significant offset to the energy produced from fossil fuels. Nevertheless, the most significant effect of sequestering carbon in the soil is that the resulting expansion of the economy will be based on the increase of durable wealth and environmental benefits. Furthermore, the expansion of the economy can supply the capital necessary to develop solar, geothermal and other forms of clean energy and efficiency that will also be absolutely nec
