These geothermal power plants seem to be what America needs to get us away from fossil fuels like, coal, oil, natural gas, and nuclear.

I would like to see a photograph of the geothermal power plant.

The Akutan situation sounds like a dream prospect for competitive geothermal energy production, with a nice high temperature from the resource so they could conceivably go with either a flash or binary option, a big industrial load, high costs for fuel imports, etc. I wish them the best for it and look forward to visiting it some day.

Where it works, geothermal must be the most inexpensive renewable enrgy source. The life of such installations could be 100 or 200 yearsor more. That's the way I see it.

But our autos will be using gasoline for a long time. I just cannot comprehend what we could do with millions of old faulty batteries from our electric autos.

Photos would be nice in this very important 'earth changing' venture !
I wonder also if on demand heated sidewalk and airport runway would be a good example in the future to convince folks that geothermal is really viable and effective.

Tapping into this kind of 'real' geothermal is very location dependent, since there are few places in N. America with hot springs. Conventional geothermal using wells or heat 'leechfields' are not quite the boon they were expected to be. Warranties on heat pumps run only 10 years; and replacement recommended before them. A new local school just finished drilling 78 'wells' and apparently altered underground water tables, causing basements to have water seepage...we are still trying to figure what happened and why.
