Philadelphia, United States -- One Block Off the Grid (1BOG) announced the launch of Philadelphia's first solar group purchase program under which 1BOG offers advice and a group discount rate for installation. Mercury Solar Systems was selected as 1BOG's program partner and will service all member installations for the duration of the three-month program.
The 1BOG Philadelphia solar group purchase program is available now to local homeowners throughout the entire Philadelphia area through October 19, 2010.
After a month-long process of vetting local installers, 1BOG selected Mercury Solar Systems. Through the partnership, each Philadelphia-area homeowner can receive a 15 percent discount from standard rates and is eligible for zero down, interest-free financing for 18 months. The 1BOG Philadelphia solar group purchase program is available now to local homeowners throughout the entire Philadelphia area through October 19, 2010. "There's relief to the pain of higher electric rates for Philly homeowners," said Dave Llorens, CEO of 1BOG. "The combination of our group discount, the new solar incentive, and sellable SRECs give solar twice the return on investment it used to have." |

The real issue is not just the cost of equipment anyway, but installation charges, which vary alot and make up at least a third of the cost of a system.
The final estimate I received from 1BOG was about $1.50/watt more than another local installer.
Get several quotes before you choose an installer. In Philadelphia, most quotes seem to be $6-$8/watt. The difference means thousands of dollars in cost.
