SunPower Launches New 19% Efficient Panel Line

In addition to the new SunPower E19 Series product line, the company is also offering its current 18 percent efficiency or greater solar panels in the SunPower E18 Series product line.

Wow! I never thought they would get this far so soon. Are they very much more expensive than the rest of the offerings out there? Can the design allow for dropping the price much with larger volumes?
when you consider that nature in the form of photosynthesis is only 6% efficient this could be a game changer.

Jonheatley, do I detect a note of sarcasm?

SunPower has been steadily losing market share because the price/efficiency ratio has been bettered by several high quality competitors. 18% efficient panels are on the market 1% more efficiency for a 40% delta price per watt is not my idea of a huge bargain. I doubt anyone looking for rapid ROI will pay the premium. On the plus side, this should allow them to substantially drop the price of the E18.

Plants may only be 6% photo-efficient, but they also grown, make seeds and reproduce. If solar panels could do the same, I'd buy 6% efficiency all day long.
