In addition to production and assembly at the new plant, most of the key wind turbine components will be made by domestic U.S. manufacturers.

I agree 100% with closing the loophole. If the Chinese make massive wind turbines and solar panels so cheaply they still enjoy a cost advantage after shipping them 10,000 miles, then it's time to stop subsidizing their slipshod and shoddy practices. Tack a tariff on 'em or build 'em here. There are a lot of hungry, talented manufacturing professionals who would easily be retrained for those green jobs. Congrats to US-REG and the state of Nevada for landing this bellweather firm.

Curbing the subsidies is key. Schumer went a little overboard with demanding 100% US made products, especially in light of the global economy. But he's on the right track. What I've proposed is subsidies tied in direct proportion of US manufactured components. If 75% of your components are US made, you get 75% of possible subsidies. 25% made, only 25% of possible subsidies.

Well said, previous posters -- I think AWEA is off-base in opposing Schumer on this one. The Chinese government subsidizes Chinese (not American) renewable energy efforts -- I don't see why we shouldn't do the same to remain competitive on a national level.

I think it is a big mistake to ask for 100% of components be made in the USA. Consider how little manufacturing exists here and how projects may be denied based on a type of screw, or magnet or some other component that is not made here. They need to reword the law to allow practical adjustments that will not cause a slow down in installations. An import tariff on foreign goods would be a better approach.
