Rome, Italy [RenewableEnergyWorld.com] A 4 MW photovoltaic system is to be installed on the roofs of the Marcegaglia Group's industrial plants in Taranto, Italy, by Enel GreenPower.
"Enel Green Power has an ambitious growth plan and a substantial pipeline of photovoltaic projects in Italy and abroad: this agreement enables us to further strengthen our presence in the steadily expanding domestic market."
-- Francesco Starace, chairman of Enel Green Power
The system will be fully integrated into the existing architecture of the steel company’s buildings and will mostly rely on flexible thin-film amorphous silicon technology, Enel Green Power says. The project, which will be one of the largest roof-integrated systems in Italy, is scheduled to start operating in 2010. Once fully operational, the system, owned 51% by Enel Green Power and 49% by Marcegaglia Group, is expected to produce some 5 GWh annually. Francesco Starace, chairman of Enel Green Power, commented: "Enel Green Power has an ambitious growth plan and a substantial pipeline of photovoltaic projects in Italy and abroad: this agreement enables us to further strengthen our presence in the steadily expanding domestic market, in which we firmly believe."
