Nominate Now! Excellence in Renewable Energy Awards

New Hampshire, United States [RenewableEnergyWorld.com]

Disruptive innovation hasn't been a driving force of the modern energy industry, but today it is becoming the norm. To celebrate the companies, business leaders and cutting edge state and local governments that are leading this new wave of innovation, RenewableEnergyWorld.com is rolling out its inaugural Excellence in Renewable Energy Awards -- and we want you to participate.

We'll be looking at a range of municipalities, non-profits, utilities and companies in the solar, wind, bioenergy, geothermal and hydro industries to determine which players are leading the increasingly-crowded pack here in North America.

With the help of our readers, RenewableEnergyWorld.com will be picking the top North American companies, technologies and initiatives in the clean energy space and presenting the awards at next February's Renewable Energy World Conference and Expo in Austin, Texas.

Here at Renewable Energy World, we hear about and report on so many new projects, technologies and business models, we feel it's time to recognize those that rise to the top. Quite often, we learn about these innovations from our active, highly-educated audience. So in order to leverage the knowledge base of our readers, we want to open up the nomination process to everyone

Nominations must be received by November 30, 2009, so take action now!

We'll be looking at a range of municipalities, non-profits, utilities and companies in the solar, wind, bioenergy, geothermal and hydro industries to determine which players are leading the increasingly-crowded pack here in North America.

This year's North American award categories include:

PROJECT of the YEAR Not a week goes by without an announcement of a “first” for some type of project. This award recognizes the highest achievement for a renewable energy project of any scale. It can be given to a tech company, a developer, a financier, or even an individual, and can be judged both on technological innovation and reduction in installed cost.

LEADERSHIP in RENEWABLE ENERGY — The renewable energy industry has been built by pioneers who have worked tirelessly to bring technologies, investor confidence and public support to such high levels. This award recognizes any individual who has made an exceptional contribution to the industry in any of those areas.

UTILITY-SCALE RENEWABLES — Now that more utilities are required to procure large amounts of renewables, large utility-run programs are popping up all the time. This is an award for projects, technologies or programs being deployed on the utility scale. It can represent a multi-project program for customers, a single innovative project or a technology that allows utility-scale projects to improve performance.

DISTRIBUTED & ON-SITE RENEWABLES — While the trend toward larger, more centralized projects continues, renewables are still an inherently distributed source of energy. This award recognizes projects, technologies or programs related to an on-site renewable energy system that are sub-utility in scale and that may be used at an industrial or large commercial installation.

BUILDING-INTEGRATED RENEWABLES — The application of renewables into building design is incredibly diverse. This award recognizes outstanding innovations in integrating renewable energy systems into building materials and building construction.

INNOVATION in RENEWABLE ENERGY — With such a broad array of technologies and applications out there, we don't want to miss something that doesn't fall under the other categories. This award recognizes excellence in any program, technology, financial instrument or policy that advances renewable energy.

READERS' CHOICE — Finally, we want to present an award based upon the most popular choice from our readers. This award will be given to the favorite of readers from all the nominations selected and posted on our online awards judging web site.

This is a great opportunity for us to give you, our readers a chance to voice your opinion what's happening in the industry. The nomination process is already underway — to cast your vote, visit the Excellence in Renewable Energy Awards website. We want to hear from you.

PROJECT of the YEAR : Somewhere out side Massachusetts .The Massachusetts Technology Colaborative bought 5 million worth of commercial wind turbines in 2005 and still has not installed them.

LEADERSHIP in RENEWABLE ENERGY : Masachusetts and Rhode Island have used renewable energy funds to pay down their budget loses and hire more people that are the political hacks of so called renewable energy jobs .

UTILITY-SCALE RENEWABLES : Cape Wind for making fun of the Indians on Cape Cod and their sad commentaries about the genocide of the Indians in North America.

UTILITY-SCALE RENEWABLES : A couple of wind turbines in Dartmouth Massachusetts that the town can never seem to tell the residents when the Alternative Energy Meetings are or where they will put the turbines if they ever get approved.

DISTRIBUTED & ON-SITE RENEWABLES : Again Dartmouth Massachusetts .The AEC told the residents the turbines would be on 80M poles and after 5 years changed them to 100M poles .

BUILDING-INTEGRATED RENEWABLES : Massachusetts electric companies get the prize on this one . Not one published story or mention of grid upgrades in Massachusetts . They don't really know how the power is getting on shore on Cape Cod.

INNOVATION in RENEWABLE ENERGY : Lets give Massachusetts the award again the state wants the Massachusetts Wind Energy Siting Reform Act because so many residents sued towns and municipalities over placing commercial wind turbines in some cases within 500 feet of residential homes

READERS' CHOICE: Lets give Masasachusetts Gov . Deval Patrick an award for the Green Communities Act . Under this act the Governor hires all his friends to six figure jobs and above under this act. The Green Communities Act mirrors the Massachusetts Technology Colaborative with another set of the same exact jobs . The MTC is a unregulated -semi quasi state agency that produces tailored wind reports for towns in Mass.

Modern Pyrolysis of biomass is a process for Carbon Negative Bio fuels, massive Carbon sequestration, 80%-90% Lower Methane & N2O soil emissions, and 2X Fertility Too.
Every 1 ton of Biomass yields 1/3 ton Charcoal for soil Sequestration (= to 1 Ton CO2e) + Bio-Gas & Bio-oil fuels = to 1MWh exported electricity, so is a totally virtuous, carbon negative energy cycle.

Biochar allows the soil food web to build much more recalcitrant organic carbon, ( living biomass & Glomalins) in addition to the carbon in the biochar.
.
Biochar viewed as soil Infrastructure; The old saw;
"Feed the Soil Not the Plants" becomes;
"Feed, Cloth and House the Soil, utilities included !".
Free Carbon Condominiums with carboxyl group fats in the pantry and hydroxyl alcohol in the mini bar.
Build it and the Wee-Beasties will come.
As one microbiologist said on the Biochar list; "Microbes like to sit down when they eat".
By setting this table we expand husbandry to whole new orders of life.

One aspect of Biochar systems are Cheap, clean biomass stoves that produce biochar and no respiratory disease. At scale, the health benefits are greater than ending Malaria.
The broad smiles of 1500 subsistence farmers say it all ( that , and the root ball size of the Biochar corn )

Internationally, the work of the IBI fostering the application by 13 countries for UN recognition of soil carbon as a sink with biochar as a clean development mechanism will open the door for programs across the globe.

Carbon to the Soil, the only ubiquitous and economic place to put it.

Almost all US renewable energy projects deserve only dishonorable mention awards for proving renewable energy is uneconomic. They sold out renewable energy by offering the projects to the energy monopolies as proof that fossil and nuclear fuels are cheaper. The US needs either free markets or fair feed-in tariffs to develop economic renewable energy projects worthy of awards.
