Just three weeks after production officially began, Oerlikon Solar's Chinese customer Tianwei SolarFilms has signed one of the largest deals in thin film silicon PV history with Thailand Green Energy Co. Ltd. Under the terms of this agreement, Tianwei SolarFilms will provide 70 megawatts (MW) of thin film solar panels to rapidly emerging markets across Southeast Asia.

This first phase of Tianwei's work with Oerlikon project produces 500,000 modules per year, which have a total capacity of 46 megawatts (MW).

"We are already seeing significant market opportunities for our cutting-edge solar PV modules. Our decision to go with the clear market leader, Oerlikon Solar, is already paying dividends,” said Ma Wenxue, general manager of Baoding Tianwei SolarFilms Co. Ltd.

This first phase of Tianwei's work with Oerlikon project produces 500,000 modules per year, which have a total capacity of 46 megawatts (MW). Reaching production quickly is essential to allow Tianwei to address the rapidly growing Chinese solar market.

South East Asia will require at least 30% energy to come from Solar in about five years time. Hence Any big expansion and lowering of the cost and lowering installation time is most welcome. All new expansion in power for Villages could switch to Solar if price is right .There is enormous scope in this technology.if all new technology such as nanotech for cell enhancement, concentrator tech etc are incorporated and price and effeciency made very attractive.
