Making Electric Transportation Work

New Hampshire, United States [RenewableEnergyWorld.com]

The automobile and electricity industries have avoided dramatic change for decades. Today, because of environmental and geopolitical concerns, auto companies and utilities are re-evaluating the fundamentals of how they do business. However, by working together and embracing change, many of these "legacy" companies could play a major role in ushering in an era of electric transportation.

There are many different visions of what what an electric transportation sector will look like. In this podcast, we'll explore a few views on how it may be created.

Matt Mattila, a business strategy specialist with the Smart Garage program at the Rocky Mountain Institute, talks about the coming convergence of green buildings, a smarter grid and the roll-out of new electric vehicles.

Joe Paluska, vice president of communications for Better Place, describes the company's systems integration approach to building out the vehicle-to-grid infrastructure. He'll talk about why electric transportation will look like today's mobile phone network.

Vijay Vaitheeswaran, environment and energy correspondent with the Economist, talks about his newest book, ZOOM: The Global Race to Build the Car of the Future. He'll also tell us why he's so hopeful that the automobile sector will embrace electric transportation and next-generation fuels.

Inside Renewable Energy is a weekly audio news program featuring stories and interviews on all the latest developments in the renewable energy industries.

I would be more hopeful if the silly president would have reversed the amounts dedicated towards (low tech) federal building weatherization and urgently needed advanced electrical (and other) energy storage.

Carbon taxes will make everything go up including solar such that China would be even greater world supplier (of everything).

I hope I am wrong... !
But do support (proper and widespread) feed in tariffs.

Jay Lenno hosted an electric car(FORD) gymkhana last night.

The driver was RUSH LIMBAUGH!

Jay was genuinely friendly and included several political obstacles...a popup of Al Gore and one of Ed Begley, and some visual obstructions---streamers, ball bursts, etc.

Rush did a credible job of staying on the course; and deliberly hit, rather than avoid Gore and Begley---he even backed up and hit them a second time!

Rush was very impressed with the ride; and my impression he was going to get one for his personal use.

Kudos to Jay for this very friendly competition and display of electric car prowess...and showing us a very different side of Limbaugh!

Rush Limbaugh is the most dangerous demagogue since Father Caughlin. He deals in half truths, misrepresentations of reality and thuggish personal attacks. It is a crying shame Leno picked him for this segment, because if the Oil companies decided to pay him a little money, Limbaugh would rant like a bullying child against electric cars. He has no loyalties or scruples.

It is too sad Leno did not mention the Tesla Roadster, by far the best electric auto today.
