Lux To Start Wafer Production

This will allow the company to start up wafer production, the first company to do so in Italy, that same month. Lux said that it expects its production capacity will total 200,000 wafers per month. The wafers will be manufactured using virgin polysilicon to acheieve the quality needed to enter the photovoltaic market.

Lux has also entered into an agreement to also start solar cell production. Lux says its initiative opens the doors for to achieve the first vertically integrated Italian photovoltaic supply chain for the manufacturing of solar modules.

Italy, thanks in part to a favorable feed-in tariff rate for solar, as well as good solar insolation in many regions of the country, makes it an attractive market for the growing solar photovoltaic industry in Southern Europe and the Mediterranean region.
