Vestas has received an order for 41 units of the V90-2.0 megawatt (MW) wind turbine for the Orites project in Cyprus. The order calls for the company to supply and commission the wind turbines. The contract also includes a five-year service and maintenance agreement.

The Orites project will be located in a mountainous area in the southwestern part of the island, close to the city of Paphos. The Vestas wind turbines are the first wind turbines to be installed in Cyprus. Delivery of the turbines is scheduled to start during the fourth quarter of 2009, and commissioning is expected to be completed in the summer of 2010.

The project will have a total installed capacity of 82 MW and an estimated annual production 128 gigawatt-hours. According to the EU targets, the island has to reach the target of 13% renewable energy in the electricity consumption by 2020.

Vestas has also received an order for 37 units of the V90-3.0 MW wind turbine for the Waterloo Wind Farm in South Australia. The order calls for supply, installation and commissioning as well as a 10-year service agreement.

Shipment of the turbines is scheduled for the 4th quarter of 2009, with site delivery and installation to take place in 2010. The order for the Waterloo Wind Farm project has been placed by Roaring 40s Renewable Energy Pty Ltd.
