Colexon Installs 4-MW Thin-film PV System

Hamburg, Germany [RenewableEnergyWorld.com] Colexon has inaugurated one of the world's largest roof-top photovoltaic power plants utilizing thin-film technology. The solar power plant, which has a capacity of 4.64 megawatts (MW) is located in Hassleben, Germany.
Colexon has already agreed the extension of the facility of another 1.2 megawatt which corresponds with the size of more than three and a half soccer fields.
For the construction of the system 64,000 modules have been installed on a previously unused roof-top area of 193,000m² which is equivalent to the size of more than 10 soccer fields. In order to bring down labor costs and boost installation efficiency, 10,000 of the total 64,000 solar modules were lifted to the roof by helicopter for installation. The thin-film modules were manufactured in Brandenburg by First Solar. The plant will generate an estimated electrical power of 4.4 million kilowatt hours per year. Based on the current feed-in-tariff of €0.4399 cent/kWh the investor will generate revenues of more than €1.9 million [US $2.7 million] per year. Colexon has already agreed the extension of the facility of another 1.2 MW which corresponds with the size of more than three and a half soccer fields.
