Areva Wins DOE Wind Energy Integration Grant

Maryland, United States [RenewableEnergyWorld.com] Areva announced that it has received a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for work to prepare the U.S. electrical grid for growth in wind power. The award will fund research conducted by Areva Federal Services and the Redmond, Washington-based Automation Business Unit of Areva T&D Inc.
"This study will capitalize on Areva's experience with grid management solutions to develop the processes and tools to achieve 20 percent wind energy generation in the U.S. by the year 2030."

The DOE grant will fund research that focuses on best practices for managing wind energy in control-room operations and on the effective use of wind forecasts. The goal of the research is for Areva to develop recommendations to effectively manage a dramatically increased amount of wind power in the U.S. energy mix. “This study will capitalize on Areva’s experience with grid management solutions to develop the processes and tools to achieve 20 percent wind energy generation in the U.S. by the year 2030,” said Michael Atkinson, managing director of Areva T&D’s Automation Business in the Americas and China.
