US Government Furthers Its Commitment To Invest in Renewable Energy R&D

U.S. government investing.

Sounds to me like this current U.S. president is doing nothing more than spending American tax dollars. Its like he thinks he is on a float in some kind of parade, casting out goodies to the people as he passes by.

Oh! But thats what the renewable energies industry likes. Groveling at the feet of the U.S. goverment, picking up whatever scraps it decides to cast down to them. Licking boot like a dog. Whatever it takes. Isn't that right?

My impression about all those promised dollars for research and development so far is - we are creating more and more Governmental Agencies that take the bulk of promised (and allocated?) funds ($777 million?!?!), and the rest will go to those conglomerates (GE?), who are close to those agencies! And the real researcher and innovator will be watching all the money disappear and hopping that someone notices him(her) and give them a couple of crumbs. I hear and see all the advertisements by the agencies and Mayor Bloomberg in New York that renewable energy development is our # 1 priority and create jobs in this economy is even higher priority, but to me it's just words.
Mayor Bloomberg last September announced solicitation of proposals to be submitted to the city agency for renewable projects. We did and couple of month later received a letter stating that our proposal was received and we shall register with the City of New York as a company with potentially viable project, But when we tried, (in addition I am the owner of the company with more than 50% ownership by the woman), it was impossible to register, unless you have already proven truck record with your product installations locally and at least 3 years in that business! And please tell me how many small businesses who may have true innovation on their hands can afford to do it without subsidies or other financing. Banks, by the way, laughed in out face when we asked stupid question: "Are any of the promised money available for small businesses even in the form of loans?" They would not do it with companies such as GE!!!
We have developed potentially a revolutionary product for Small Wind generation and Electrical Storage to be used in urban environment that is much more efficient than anything out there, but without additional funding we are stuck!
I would not attack our new president as a previous comment did, but there is some truth in them - only BIG GUY WINS !!!

Dear Nadia:

Hang in there. Government is often using registration software which is at least ten years old. We have run into the same problem trying to register with the Fed's Central Contractor's Registry and FedConnect. You need to find the back door to the agency/department which actually reviews the submission, then hand carry and hard copy to that agency/deparment and get a receipt. Also, send a hard copy to the Mayor's office with your above comments. Also send a FedEx copy and get signed receipts. Lastly, when you have proof of delivery, go on a talk show and let the folks know how poorly the government is organized to execute the greenwashing from the Mayor's office.

Good luck.

Dear thomas-schmidt-36371

As a paid Republic hack, you've posted your post and collected your fee for doing so. Do you have any hard evidence or citations to backup any of your opinions?

The scope of work proposed by ARPA-E is very much in line of what our country needs to do to dig ourselves out of the energy crunch. We need to spend money to advance the technology to the point of practical application.

Apparently, you would rather continue pay high prices for fuel imported from foreign nations. Your "hits" are thoughtless and simply way off target.
