I believe this is an unfortunate minor side issue to the production of a true PHEV. Toyota is wasting time and money that would be better spent on their true PHEV model. I am currently producing over 3000 kWh of surplus solar power annually that would provide about 9,000 miles worth of energy in a Prius PHEV. This is power that I had originally planned to use to recharge a Toyota RAV 4 EV with, but they removed this model from the market just as I was ready to buy mine. I had just completed my solar installation and I was not happy with Toyota at that time and I haven't yet fully forgiven them.
