I'm thrilled to read this story and am excited for the area residents of Babcock ranch. This action will stimul;ate similiar community developments in areas where the solar energy is so abundant.
The solar and renewable energy companies in this country will also get a shot in the arm from developments of this type. Retrofitting existing communities will come as a natural response also and by Earth Day 2010 we in the U.S. should be well on our way to a new Green economy.

Incredible project!!

As 100% of electricity is from solar, where will the power come from when the sun is not shining?

Ahhh...welcome to the Wind/Solar dicotomy...they sound great, but they aren't 24/7, and aren't economically feasable yet, without big subsidies from you and me (the taxpayer)...

You and me the taxpayer have been in the BOHICA position subsidizing big coal and big oil our entire lives. When the taxpayer is really represented, then the people who have been getting stinking filthy rich selling their toxic products that harm the health and well-being of every single person on the planet, will be properly charged for the damage they've done and continue to do. Only then will we see transparency on the true cost of burning carbon.

You've been paying a carbon tax your whole life, yet some people still want to whine and bitch about the price of clean, renewable energy that does more good than harm.

How about getting a clue and then getting some honest perspective when you talk about subsidies and costs?
