Dong & Siemens Sign 1.8-GW Turbine Deal

Copenhagen, Denmark [RenewableEnergyWorld.com]

Dong Energy and the Siemens Energy Sector have signed an agreement for the supply of up to 500 offshore wind turbines. The wind turbines to be delivered under the supply agreement will have total capacity of up to 1,800 megawatts (MW), and will be deployed on Dong Energy's coming offshore wind farms in Northern Europe. Permitting procedures and country specific wind regime economics will determine where and when the individual projects will be built.

"Entering into the largest single offshore wind turbine supply agreement ever further strengthens Dong Energy's leading position in this field and provides us with an important tool for implementing our strategy of significantly expanding Dong Energy's position within sustainable energy."

-- Anders Eldrup, CEO, Dong Energy

“Siemens and Dong Energy have a history of successful cooperation in relation to construction and operation of offshore wind projects. With this agreement the parties are jointly taking a quantum leap towards further streamlining the construction of projects of this kind,” said Anders Eldrup, CEO of Dong Energy. “Entering into the largest single offshore wind turbine supply agreement ever further strengthens Dong Energy’s leading position in this field and provides us with an important tool for implementing our strategy of significantly expanding Dong Energy's position within sustainable energy.”

The wind turbines that Siemens will deliver under the supply agreement each have a capacity of 3.6 MW. They are similar to the turbines in operation at Dong Energy’s Burbo Banks offshore wind farm and those being installed at Dong Energy’s Gunfleet Sands I+II project.

Information on DONG from their website:

"DONG Energy is Denmark's largest power generator. We produce more than 50% of Denmark's power and approximately 40% of the district's heat. Furthermore, we are the leading thermal generator by volume on Nord Pool. 87 percent of our 6.5 GW capacity originates from thermal power plants and the remaining is wind and hydro."

Supposedly Dong Energy has been doing well for quite some time now. I've heard there has been quite a rise in their proprietary "tighter canal" technologies. My best wishes for a long and sustained development in their growth sector.
