It would appear that Europe is gaining a commanding lead over the US in manufacturing, installation and use of renewable energy. I don't know of anywhere in the US with such an integrated and committed determination to make renewable energy a basis of industry and everyday life.

I think we could learn a lesson from the German efforts.

Yes I think Europe has a lead in the manufacturing and installation of wind farm systems.

However the USA does have such capabilities also. In the American midwest where we have higher winds than other locations, wind power has been a common thing for a few years. Also the General Electric Co. manufactures a 200' tower generator unit in 3 power configurations......there are a few of these in operation in the eastern and southern USA.

Very well written and researched article. It is a tribute to how a community can take advantage of its strengths (workforce, docks, shipyards, and shipbuilding facilities) to enter a new market. Germany is excellent at understanding the value of this type of manufacturing, how it benefits its society, and takes a long view towards this type of commercial development.

The US has the same types of opportunities, especially since it has much more land, much more wind (some states have more than all of Germany), and has the capability to locally manufacture these types of turbines.
