Sen. Reid Announces Introduction of Major Energy Transmission Bill

Washington, D.C., United States [RenewableEnergyWorld.com] In his remarks to the National Clean Energy Project forum at the Newseum this week, U.S. Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) announced that he will introduce a bill that will make it easier to carry renewable energy from often remote locations to urban centers in need of power.

Reid said that the bill charts a better path to a cleaner, greener and smarter national transmission policy, without sacrificing reliability or affordability. Overhauling how renewable energy is delivered will create good-paying jobs in areas of Nevada that most need them.

“My legislation will require the President to designate renewable energy zones with significant clean energy generating potential. Then, a massive planning effort will begin in all the interconnection areas of the country to maximize the use of that renewable potential by building new transmission capacity. If that process falters, then the federal government would be given clear authority to keep it going and get that new transmission built on schedule,” Reid said.

PLEASE! BIG PLANNING = BIG ENERGY!!! Can't you figure out how to structure a market instead, Senator? Or is all this rhetoric about faith in the wonderfulness of "the American people" to solve problems just more empty words?
