I believe that in order to fashion a world where renewables play a dominant role an economy must be built that will foster the type of environment necessary to that end. As it is, the old global economy ( the one that has been around for the last 50 years in one form or another) is struggling for survival. Like the dinosaurs after the meteor it is doomed. It must be let go. The old economy built on fossil fuels will diminish if investments go only to the new global economy, that is the renewable fuels economy just now reaching its infancy. Time is becoming a precious commodity with climate change and collapsing economies signaling the end of the old "New World Order". A new global order that consists of cooperation and a willingness to experiment with new and existing infrastructures both physical and political is necessary for the good of us all.

A COORDINATED EFFORT ON THE RENEWABLE ENERGY FRONT IS LACKING GLOBALLY AT PRESENT. ALTHOUGH MANY GOVERNMENTAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL EFFORTS ARE LAUDABLE AND PROGREESING WELL IN PROMOTING THE POLLUTION FREE TECHNOLOGIES.

IRENA CAN NO DOUBT BRIDGE THIS GAP AND BRING ABOUT A WELL KNIT AND COHESIVE APPROACH WORLDWIDE SO AS TO ACHIEVE THE DESIRED GOALS OF ENERGY CONSERVATION, ENERGY INDEPENDENCE THRU NON-POLLUTING AND CARBON FREE TECHNOLOGIES IN THE WORLD.

BEING ACTIVELY INVOLVED IN PROMOTING THE SOLAR ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES FOR A LONG TIME, I WOULD BE KEEN TO OFFER HELP AND SUPPORT IN THIS PROGRAM BY IRENA FOR THE BENEFIT OF MANKIND.

This message has been sent to the WEF directorate at Davos
These books may be of interest to you, they give an outline as to how the World could tackle the Depression AND Climate Change
They may also be of interest to delegates to the Davos World Economic Forum ?
Sustainable Energy - without the hot air by Dr David MacKay of the Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge

Sustainable energy generates wealth by it's exploitation in the same way as one exploits a coal seam or other mineral source, or an oil or gas field. When applied it also creates jobs. This point is also made by Alan Durning in his book Green Collar Jobs
http://www.amazon.com/Green-Collar-Jobs-Working-Northwest/dp/1886093083
an example of activity from the USA may be seen here
http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2009/jan/16/green-industry-casts-wide-net/

Switzerland has created much wealth from Sustainable Energy, the rest of the World should now follow her example ?

Unless IRENA gets USA, China, India and other high-energy -consumption countries involved, it will not make much of a difference. In addition, interests and priorities of every country are different.

It is indeed very nice that IRENA has now emerged as the most important link on RE activities for co-operation and co-ordination between professionals and groups on an international level.

I am not sure why Mr Chen thinks that IRENA needs to involve China India etc. The point is the organisation is there to promote renewables - countries are free to join - or not as they see fit. Whether China et al join or not will make little difference to the message that IRENA is putting out.

The documents relating to the founding of IRENA are interesting since they profile the poor job that orgs such as the IEA have done in forecasting the development of renewables. Hopefully the new organisation will re-balance the data we have both on growth and costs.

"Renewable energy (RE)" is part of the answer toward energy sustainability. The other part is "energy efficiency (EE)" i.e. efficient utilization of all forms of energy. EE ought to be a prerequiste to "Sustainable energy (SE)". Thus, SE=EE+RE.

i had done a thesi, that talk about a DEVELOPPEMENT DURABLE, that means a idro-energetic infrastruccture that use superstructure for make energy , usure less....then not passive but active infrastructure; this is also called "developpement des energies propres du territoire"
all based on babylon garden typology of water storage, and using a gravitation energy conversion in compressed air...
this turbined on muntain produce elettricity on demand, and help "the HAMMURABY sistem " to store water in snow form...

working on this accumulator of energy , can be possible have a sun powered pumpS for africa; using a .....like a tube.
then making energy whit water from mountain to sea, and accumulate energy renowable pomping water from sea to mountain...

sun and air-compressed is heat and cold , for desalting the sea water...

and many many MORE.... call me , in italy we say this a BBIINNGGOOOOO
