The article claims that gassification helps produce 30% more power compared to conventional process of simply firing the energy bearing material ina boiler and running a turbine on steam thus produced.

While it is important to conserve resources and extract maximum energy even out of waste, I would like to get a sense of extra capital cost for gasification for generating the extra 30% power. If the extra capex is high, it would result in higher cost of production, particularly when using cheap waste products.

I would welcome if any of the enlightened readers can throw light on this aspect.

ya its true that you get 30% more power compared to conventional process of simply burning the biomass. the key is to get the cheapest biomass. Wood and rice husk are best biomass, whose calorific value is high to produce good amount of energy.
The capex cost is not that much, this cost can be recovered within in a year considering the subsidiaries and depreciation given by the govt.
the running cost is much less than the Diesel generator's running cost as the fuel is cheaper.

I would welcome some comments on this topic from the fellow people who are working on same lines
