I remain unimpressed with new govt. proclamations of support for renewable energy plans. It should have been an ongoing priority since Jimmie Carter. Why is there not an effort to use this standard, when rebuilding New Orleans? I've seen many things come and go, but this is no game anymore. The federal govt. can lead the way on all these things, and hopefully they will.

We can do zero net energy buildings now. We have several here in the central Hudson Valley of NY. I led a tour in early June for the N Y Solar Energy Society that included a new commercial office of the Hudson Valley Clean Energy co.. It is completing a one year test for zero net energy certification. It is super insulated (6 in of spray foam), heated and cooled with ground source heat pumps ( 3 ton system) 15 KW of PV and solar thermal hot water.

this is great AND late, i agree. bob, how can we find out more about the net zero projects already here? i am constantly arguing with people who think that is a pipe dream, but i know they already exist and that in many cases, structures can be retro-fitted to be NET EXPORTERS of energy.

we need to get this much more publicized before tens of millions of acres of our wilderness are needlessly destroyed for centralized solar and wind "farms!" POINT OF USE is the future, and resources need to all be devoted to R & D, feed in tariffs, smart metering, storage and other solutions, rather than towards Big Energy monopolies which destroy habitat, force people from their homes and hijack ratepayers and taxpayers!
