The Co-op Bank has also provided match funding (alongside a 50% government grant) to enable 100 schools around the UK to have free solar PV systems installed. These systems allow the schools to reduce their energy bills and provide a great learning resource for the children.

Here in California the environmental component of expanded use of renewable energy is becoming the lead issue over the financial component. Because over 1 million acres of open undisturbed wilderness are slated to be developed by utility scale Big Solar and Big Wind (Big Energy), it's no longer just an issue of cleaning up our air: it's a matter of keeping intact ecosystems safe from the "T Bone" diesel powered earth scrapers and boring machines.

We can produce just as much and more renewable energy on the roofs of our homes, schools, shopping malls, factories, warehouses, etc. Germany is doing it, and has the solar potential equivalent to northern Canada. They didn't worry about finding optimum solar potential orange and red swaths on their map. They made no excuses and dove right in to distributed energy paradigm producing 2 gigawatts of PV electrons annually.

The differences are many between point of use and utility scale remote generation with it's attached power lines. We must consider the over-all environmental impact these Big Energy projects will have. These are the impacts "T-Bone" and the rest of his Big Energy friends don't want to talk about.

Seeing the T-Bone commercials reminds us all the people that brought us oil dependence and $4 gallon gas are the same ones that will bring us $4 kw electricity.

No thank you.

Solar energy will come to the mainstream, not when people are indoctrinated, but when solar power becomes cost-effective. And Concentrated Solar Power for Southern California already is. Photovoltaic still has a long way to go, but there is hope with new thin-film technology, and dye-enhanced PV. Once local solar power can compete directly with grid power, the game is on, and no "education" will be required.

As a home owner and someone who is not affilitated with the industry I can tell you this much, it make no sense for me to invest in a PV system if I will not see a return on my investment for 15 to 20 years.

Now, not having a crysatal ball, but having seen what has happend in other countries that have chosen the past we in the US has, it appears our Dollar will drop in value like we have never seen before. If this is the case then the cost of energy will skyrocket with in the US and the return on my investment my come in much faster. The idea of not being able to heat and run my 3000 sqft home might bring me to the point of investing in one.

Here lies your oportunity, scare us into buying them.

Just your average Jose in socal
